House In Leopoldsburg

The Flemish farmhouse is an archetype that trough a slow process of trial and error and constantly tweaking has evolved to an efficient and comfortable way of living. It is in essence a product of common sense with as main purpose increasing the chances of survival of its inhabitants. With it’s small northern facade facing the wind it used to be the symbol of form follows function.

But for the past couple of decades the over-romanticized style of the farmhouse has been mimicked countless times, resulting in a cartoonesque landscape misinterpreting this no-nonsense archetype.
Atelier JPLX on the other hand turned this trend around, asking themselves what would happen when modern building-techniques and the common sense of the farmhouse would meet.
